HOW TO STAND OUT AT WORK FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS

  • HOW TO STAND OUT AT WORK FOR ALL THE RIGHT REASONS

It’s important to become “indispensable” in the workplace. Don’t get me wrong, of course no one is indispensable but why not make your stay longer, grow with the company; get more opportunities sent your way.

In every office there are those people you will never miss and should they miss a day of work, you are bound to notice. This is not the kind of “standing out” we are talking about, we mean, working in such a way that you as an individual cannot be missed.

So how do you do that; how do you stand out from the crowd?

    • Be first with a purpose

Great employees are known not only by being the first to arrive but the ones that have things in order. Don’t only be the one known to turn on the lights in the morning or off in the evenings-solve a pending task, chip away at a project others are ignoring etc. Let your performance stand out.

    • Be known for something specific

Doing that which is expected of you will not turn heads, it will not lift you above the rest. What you are meant to do is, go above and beyond! Be the employee that helps struggling colleagues, the one who always follows up, the first to act in a pressurized situation. This will definitely put you out as the go- to –person.

    • Mean what you say

Many are the people who say things but do not mean them. In an example, a project could go wrong and they would be the type to point out the flaws. These are the things you should highly avoid. Do not be the type to point out what could have been done better. Action these when a situation is ongoing; take charge and help fix the problems not point them out.

    • Always be a step ahead

If you know Murphy’s Law, “if anything can go wrong, it always will” then you know it’s quite a true statement. This is the very reason why you should always be a step ahead. Focus on the task ahead and pre-empt all the ways the project can go and in this way you can avoid a few things here and there. This is also a way to deter away your critics who are always looking to bring you down.

These are just a few ways to stand out at your workplace. There are so many more, simply do your research and not only learn them but put them into practice!!
